In mid-September, the Bundeswehr Reservist Association contacted us via social media with an urgent plea for help from the flood-ravaged Ahr Valley region. Here, on the night of July 14-15, 2021, a once-in-a-century flood occurred, claiming 180 lives. We were informed of the highly tense situation caused by the completely destroyed infrastructure.
At that time, the Reservist Association had set up a supply point with a field kitchen along the federal highway between Reimerzhofen and Laach for almost 3000 residents and helpers, as there was no electricity or running water in the villages. Of necessity, donated food was stored in two household refrigerators, which, of course, did not meet the demand. To be able to cool larger quantities of food, the Reservist Association approached us with a request for the donation of a refrigerated trailer.
After hearing about the dramatic conditions on site, we immediately agreed and, in cooperation with "Indersdorf Hilft", delivered a Frigo King refrigerated trailer to the supply point on September 30th.
We also went to the site ourselves to get an impression and spoke with residents and helpers. We will soon publish a short video report on this on our social media channels. It left lasting impressions on our team – on the one hand of total destruction – but above all of cohesion and community, which allowed an unexpectedly positive energy to be felt among all people on site.
We wish all those affected and all helpers the very best and much strength for the difficult tasks in the coming months, and we hope that our small donation will make their daily lives a little easier.
WÖRMANN helps in the Ahr Valley!
